BAHM: What made you choose fashion design and retail?

HS: Fashion has always been my language of self-expression. Growing up surrounded by rich South-Asian textiles and craftsmanship inspired me deeply, and as I moved to Canada, I realized how meaningful it is to stay connected to that identity. Launching Happy Styling allowed me to bring timeless Indian elegance to a community where it isn’t always easily accessible.
It was the perfect blend of passion, culture, and a desire to create something of my own.

BAHM: How would you describe your core aesthetics and philosophy, and how has it evolved?

HS: My aesthetic combines traditional Indian artistry with modern silhouettes, lightweight fabrics, and wearable luxury. I focus on clean lines, elegant detailing, and pieces that feel both timeless and effortless.
Over time, my philosophy has shifted toward versatility — creating outfits women can wear across occasions, cultures, and lifestyles. Happy Styling has grown from offering classics to intentionally designing pieces that celebrate identity in a contemporary way.

BAHM: What story, emotion, or cultural influence shapes your collections?

HS: Every collection is inspired by heritage, femininity, and nostalgia. Indian fashion carries stories — from hand-embroidery to regional textiles — and I aim to keep those memories alive.
I hope that when audiences see my designs, they feel connected, confident, and celebrated. Whether someone grew up wearing Indian suits or is discovering the culture for the first time, I want our pieces to spark emotion and pride.

BAHM: Walk us through one detail, technique, or fabric choice that is deeply intentional.

HS: One detail I’m very intentional about is the choice of lightweight, flowy fabrics like Chinon and chiffon. They drape beautifully, photograph well, and are extremely comfortable for long wear — especially important for our Canadian climate.
Many people overlook how a fabric moves, but for me, that movement is part of the design. It brings softness, elegance, and a sense of effortless grace to every piece.

BAHM: How are you approaching sustainability, and what challenges or innovations have emerged?

HS: We focus on small-batch production, thoughtful curation, and quality materials to reduce waste. By avoiding mass manufacturing, we ensure every piece is purposeful and long-lasting.
A challenge is finding suppliers who align with the same values, but it has pushed us toward more transparent sourcing and building relationships with artisans who prioritize craftsmanship over volume. This shift has allowed us to celebrate slow, respectful fashion.

BAHM: In what way would you combine Indo-Western fusion pieces in your collection?

HS: Indo-Western fusion is a core part of our future direction. I love pairing traditional embroidery or fabrics with western-inspired cuts — such as jacket-style kurtas, co-ord sets, and contemporary shararas.
The goal is to create versatile outfits women can wear to work, brunch, weddings, or festivals — pieces that honour tradition but feel fully at home in a modern wardrobe.

BAHM: Where do you see your brand heading in the next few years creatively or commercially?

HS: Creatively, I see Happy Styling moving into signature designs, curated capsule collections, and more Indo-Western pieces.
Commercially, I envision expanding our online store, collaborating with creators, and eventually introducing curated pop-ups across Canada. My long-term goal is to make Happy Styling a go-to destination for South-Asian fashion in North America.

BAHM: What are your greatest moments or achievements?

HS: Some of my proudest moments include:

Launching Happy Styling and seeing it grow through genuine community support.
Watching customers wear our pieces for weddings, graduations, and personal milestones.
Building a brand from scratch using my skills in content, styling, and marketing.
Seeing repeat customers who trust our quality and vision — that loyalty means everything.
